Understanding Your Body and Pain

Our Bodies are Constantly Undergoing Change

This change is 100% normal with every human being. Changes that occur can often bring about pain from the degeneration of our bodies, both inside and out. With this change, often times pain occurs from even the slightest movement or activity.

Pain is different for everyone.

It is important to understand pain and how it is different for everyone. Our pain system is regulated by our brain and sensors act as its own alarm system. We recognize this can be different for everyone. Numerous factors may be involved, including environmental factors when experiencing pain. Often our brain tells us to “ignore” and accept this is “normal”. Sadly, it is these same normal protective systems in our brains that often contribute to long-term, chronic pain issues.

Chronic pain is often defined as any pain lasting more than twelve weeks. Whereas acute pain is a normal sensation that alerts us to possible injury, chronic pain is very different. We don’t have all the answers, but we know that pain, especially chronic pain, cannot always be helped through medication or a diagnosis. What we do know is pain is normal with every human being.
